Each spectrometer is cooled using an electric cryo-generator (Mirion-Canberra Cryo-Pulse® 5 +). This system allow to cool the germanium crystal down to – 185°C.
LAFARA has chosen this cooling system as it avoids the use of liquid nitrogen. The security level of the laboratory is consequently increased.
Electric supply is backed up thanks to 2 electric inverters (one for the detectors, one for the air treatment unit). This allow to maintain the operations of the devices as well as the communication with the lab, even in the case of a prolonged power cut.
