Our aim is simple : make every effort to decrease and stabilise the radiological background through time. Given the detectors sensitivity, they may detect the tiniest parasite radioactive signal. To make possible the measurements of very low radioactvity level, we must reduce as far as possible the contribution of this background signal.
LAFARA has chosen the following solutions to achieve this purpose :
The background level is regularly measured to apply the moste precise correction to the analytical results.
Inter-laboratory comparison of background levels
Current background level measured at LAFARA is about 0.016 count s-1 kg-1 of active germanium on the whole spectra (from 30 keV to 2,8 MeV). LAFARA stands then among the most efficient radiolab for low radioactivity analysis.
